Phil and Michele Mercurio

Berile Stander will always live in our memories; he was an important person in our lives. He and his family were responsible for Michele and I meeting each other. That first encounter led our having been married now for 36 years and still counting. This is how that happened: Berile and his wife Connie held the best holiday season parties, always generously supplied with food and drink. So one holiday season, I think it was 1977, Berile had invited me to play a little music for the group. He also invited Michele and her parents. Michele was a school mate of Sharon and Randy - I had already known Randy, we lived in the same dorm at UCLA. Anyway, it was at this gathering that I instantly knew I had met the love of my life. Thank you Berile and Connie! Berile and Connie raised two exceptional children, who remain very close friends of Michele and I to this very day, along with two fine grandchildren. That alone is a testament to his character. His wonderful life long dedicated marriage to Connie is another testament. Berile's success in his businesses and in his community of friends are additional testaments. I will always remember Berile's infectious laugh and bright smile. And I will always remain thankful that Berile and Connie welcomed me into their family's lives. I know Michele's life, and my life, continue to be immeasurably enriched by knowing them all.
