The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Dr. Earl Eldred can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

John E. Swett

Earl was my thesis advisor between 1956 and 1960. He was a joy to work with because he was even tempered and jovial on almost all occasions. One of my favorite memories of him was the weekly trip to do experiments in the old wooden barracks behind the Long Beach VA Hospital. This was before the 405 freeway was built and this necessitated getting there and back by surface streets. He worked out a very original route, sometimes using alleys. It must have taken 1.5 hours or more and often we did not get back to our homes until midnight. He was very much an outdoor person who enjoyed hiking and was always physically fit. In his office he would suddenly jump out of his chair and drop to the floor to do a bunch of push-ups. Sometime in the late 60's Earl and his family paid us a visit when I was a faculty member of CU in Denver. He had wide-ranging interests filled with interesting details. He liked to learn things and impart what he learned. Always friendly, yet to this day, I have no idea where he stood politically. That is a model of discretion. We will always miss him.
